It seems that scientists made an interesting discovery: As it turns out, for the brain, remembering something is very similar to actually reliving it. The brain wiring will work pretty much the same when something happens, as when you remember that same something that has happened, later.
Areas of psychology, like Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) have been using this for years, in providing ways to get over traumas and other (bad) psychological effects, as well as "looking on the bright side of life" by wiring the brain in a different, more positive, way.
